Waynesboro Riverview School Library Media Center Mission

 

The mission of our K-8 Library Media Center is to foster a lifelong love of reading, empower curious minds, and support academic excellence. We provide an inclusive, safe, and engaging environment where students explore diverse ideas, learn to navigate information responsibly, and develop critical thinking skills to become lifelong learners in a global society.   

 

 

 

Waynesboro Riverview School Library Media Center Vision

 

The vision of the Wayne County School District is for the library media centers to be the focal point of the schools and to serve as the core of the educational program. The library media centers must strive to accommodate students and teachers during non-structured time and regularly scheduled curriculum areas. The library media center will maintain a collection of print and non-print items that will support the curriculum and interest the patrons. 

 

 

 

 

Operational Procedures

 

Hours of Operation

 

The Waynesboro RiverviewSchool Library is open Monday - Friday from 7:30 am until 2:30 pm. Students have the opportunity to use the library for independent study and personal use. Classes are scheduled for visits during the week.

 

 WRS Schedule

 

Scheduling Policy

Classes will be scheduled in the library for library skills, research, or class projects. These class times will be scheduled by the school library media specialist and the teacher. Riverview School Library serves Pre-K through 8th-grade students. 

 

Destiny Library Software

 

The library catalog is maintained on our Riverview School Destiny Portal Web page. Any student in 3rd grade through 8th grade is able to log in to his/her account at the library to see which books are checked out, place holds on books, and search for new titles.

 

                                                                                                          

 

 

 

 

 

Circulation Policies

 

 

• Pre-K-1st grade students may check out 1 item at a time
• 2nd-8th graders may check out 2-3 items at one time

• Items are checked out for a period of 2 weeks
• Items will be renewed upon student request
• Reference books, such as encyclopedias and dictionaries, are to be used only in the library. Teachers may check out these items for classroom use.

 

Overdue/Lost Materials

 

A student is responsible for any books checked out in his/her name.

• Items overdue by 1 month are considered lost. 

• Lost materials can be resolved in 2 ways:

Pay the purchase price of the book to the WRS library

Replace the book (websites offering books for purchase - Amazon, Bookshop.orgBookshop, Book Outlet)

 

Damaged Materials

 

Minor repairs will be performed as needed; however, students who have damaged items beyond repair will be expected to pay the purchase price of the book or replace the book.

MAGNOLIA provides Mississippi residents with access to electronic databases through their local public, school, community college, or university libraries. MAGNOLIA is funded by the Mississippi Legislature and, in part, by libraries throughout the State of Mississippi.
